BARKLEY TO UNDERGO SHOULDER SURGERY

The Philadelphia 76ers say Charles Barkley will undergo arthroscopic surgery later this month after a physician confirmed that there are bone spurs in the forward's right shoulder.

General manager John Nash said Barkley was examined Thursday in Birmingham, Ala., by Dr. James Andrews, who has performed surgery on a number of prominent athletes needing similar treatment."The procedure will be performed in mid-June and will be followed by six to eight week of rehabilitation, which is expected to have Charles Barkley back at 100 percent," Nash said.
