F. Marian Bishop, professor and chairwoman of the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine, has been selected as 1990 educator of the year by the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine.
She was honored by her peers at a recent meeting of the association in Atlanta, Ga.Bishop has held numerous leadership positions in academic associations in her specialty, including president of the association and chairwoman of the group's committee on preventive/community medicine curriculum in U.S. medical Schools.
She has been an active participant in the work of the National Board of Medical Examiners since her first committee appointment in 1975, and is currently fulfilling a two-year term as a member of that group's executive board.
Department chairwoman at the U. since 1984, Bishop publishes and lectures widely. She is a member of Rotary International and is involved in community affairs, serving with Utah Task Force 5, a group of community leaders organized by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, to discuss and represent Utah concerns regarding current federal legislation.
