SHERIFF URGES EXTRA CAUTION AGAINST WATERWAY HAZARDS

With the arrival of summer, Salt Lake County Sheriff Pete Hayward said now is the time to take precautions against waterways that are hazardous - particularly for children.

Hayward is attempting to identify waterways, canals, streams, lakes or swimming pools that need to be fenced before a tragedy occurs. Citizens are urged to call 535-5441 to report dangerous areas.The sheriff urges parents and citizens to heed the following advice:

-Never leave children unattended near waterways.

-Never let anyone swim alone.

-Report broken fences and unguarded waterways to the sheriff's office.

-Use an approved flotation device for children in or near water.

-Use extra caution near waterways.
