South Korean champion Moon Sung-Kil defended his World Boxing Council super flyweight title Saturday with an eighth-round technical knockout over Mexican challenger Gilberto Roman.
Moon was declared the winner when Roman, the No. 3 WBC contender, remained in his corner at the start of the ninth round with a swollen right eye.The two boxers slugged it out from the opening bell of the scheduled 12-rounder.
It was Moon's first defense of the title he won from Nana Konadu of Ghana in Seoul in January. The victory boosted the champion's record to 12 wins, including 10 knockouts, against one loss.
