Orlando Canizales retained his International Boxing Federation bantamweight world title Sunday with a controversial victory over Paul Gonzales.

The end came at 30 seconds of the second round. The ringside doctor ruled Gonzales couldn't continue because of a cut on his left eyelid.The cut occurred early in the first round of the scheduled 12-round bout. Gonzales and his handlers complained after the fight that the cut was from a butt and that the fight should have been declared a technical draw. The IBF and Texas Boxing Commission ringside representatives agreed the cut was from a clean blow.
