Rex E. Lee, president of Brigham Young University, has appointed geology professor Dana T. Griffen as chairman of the Department of Geology for a three-year term.
Griffen replaces Wade E. Miller, who is returning to full-time teaching and research. Miller will continue, however, as director of the Earth Science Museum.A native of Washington, D.C., Griffen earned his bachelor's degree from the United States Naval Academy and his master's degree and doctorate from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
He joined BYU in 1975 and became a full professor in 1988. Griffen has served as college research coordinator, as department graduate coordinator, as a member of the Faculty Advisory Council and as assistant department chairman.
