SOVIET STEALS PLANE

A former pilot stole a 12-seat Aeroflot biplane from a city in the southwestern Ukraine and flew it across the Soviet border Monday toward Turkey, the official Soviet news agency Tass said.

There were apparently no passengers or crew aboard when the pilot took off in the AN-2 single-engine plane from the airport at Izmail, a Soviet city on the Danube near the Black Sea, Monday morning. The plane crossed the Soviet border three minutes after takeoff and "KGB officials told Tass the plane was reported flying in the airspace of Romania and Bulgaria and heading toward Turkey."
