A fugitive rightist leader has declared war on the government, releasing a videotape from hiding in which he promises to "use every means at our disposal" to overthrow President F.W. de Klerk.
Police offered a $19,000 reward Tuesday for Piet Rudolph, deputy leader of the extremist Boer State Party.A spokeswoman said police had studied Rudolph's videotape, which was sent to the Afrikaans-language newspaper Beeld. Rudolph is wanted in the theft of arms and ammunition from air force headquarters in Pretoria on April 13.
In announcing the reward, Minister of Law and Order Adriaan Vlok said: "South Africa can't allow people like Mr. Rudolph to rouse emotions with instigating threats."
