A party Wednesday, June 20, at noon in the Servus Drug reception room will mark the 40th anniversary of the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce when several past presidents will talk about their reigns.
Haven Burningham, chamber executive director, said the organization was incorporated May 30, 1950, as the South Davis Area Chamber of Commerce to promote the business interests of the six cities in the southern end of Davis County.Durrell T. Burningham, owner and manager of the O.P. Skaggs store located on Main Street in Bountiful, was the first president. In all, the chamber has had 37 presidents, with Douglas Headden of Mountain Fuel Supply Co. currently serving as president.
As the chamber grew, it became apparent a geographical identity was needed, so the board of directors voted to change the name to the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber represents Bountiful, Centerville, Farmington, North Salt Lake, West Bountiful and Woods Cross.
