Green Street, the I-15 frontage road at 5300 South, will be relocated farther west to improve safety and convenience to motorists, the Utah Department of Transportation said.
The project, to begin within a month, will involve building a new two-lane road that will intersect 5300 South at College Drive, about one block west of the current Green Street intersection. The new road will run south then curve east to tie back into the existing frontage road for access to businesses and residences. The new street will also serve the I-15 and 5300 South park-and-ride lot.
Currently southbound traffic exiting at 5300 South must cross three lanes of heavy traffic in a short distance to continue south on Green Street.
A low bid of $181,218 for the project was received by Staker Paving of Salt Lake City.
