Alan P. Newman, assistant professor of surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine, has been selected as a European Traveling Fellow by the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
Newman left for Europe the end of May and will spend more than a month visiting 11 cities including Athens, Rome, London and Stockholm. The program is an exchange that allows sports-medicine specialists from both Europe and the United States to visit clinics and share ideas.
Newman says he hopes to "bring back new ideas" from his scientific interchange in Europe. In addition to clinic visits, he will also have the chance to observe a number of sports-medicine and knee surgical procedures and attend several conferences.
A member of the U. School of Medicine faculty since 1983, Newman is head of the Section of Sports Medicine in the Division of Orthopedic Surgery.
