Nicholas Billings, a Dartmouth College junior from Salt Lake City, has been named a Presidential Scholar at the college.

The Presidential Scholars program was established in 1987 to encourage intellectual and artistic excellence among Dartmouth undergraduates. A program of research assistantships was introduced in 1989 for juniors with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. These research assistantships last one academic term and involve working one-on-one with a faculty member on a research project of mutual interest. The aim of this program is to introduce students to the challenge of research while providing them with the apprenticeship training useful for the writing of a senior Honors thesis.
