A burglar who attempted to flee police by driving a stolen motorcycle through the window of a dealership was captured after the front wheel got stuck between iron security bars.
South Salt Lake police responded to a burglar alarm early Sunday at Honda of Salt Lake, 2354 S. State, and observed a man with a hacksaw trying to cut the chain of a fenced storage area. When officers ordered him to surrender, the man jumped on a motorcycle and tried to run over them, a police report stated.The burglar then drove the motorcycle through the service department, into the showroom and tried to escape by driving through the front door. The glass shattered, and the front wheel got stuck in the vertical security bars, police said.
Officers arrested an 18-year-old Park City man and retrieved a loaded 9mm handgun, according to the report. The man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated burglary, auto theft, theft of a firearm, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
