All municipal employees receive the same retirement contribution from Provo City - 20.15 percent of their earnings. However, the contribution is divided according to the retirement program the employee belongs to.

For example, an employee in the planning office who is on a contributory plan has 5.70 percent, including overtime and bonuses, placed in a 401(a) deferred-compensation account.Police and fire employees have their entire portion paid into the state-run retirement system, which doesn't accept contributions for overtime and bonus earnings. So the police association wants the city to contribute to a supplemental retirement plan for police and fire employees.
