IMELDA TO FACE PHILIPPINE TRIAL `AT PROPER TIME'

President Corazon Aquino says former Philippine first lady Imelda Marcos will be tried "at the proper time" in the Philippines for crimes allegedly commited in the country.

Aquino was asked by palace reporters about news reports that U.S. district Judge John Keenan had expressed reservations about the propriety of holding the Marcos racketeering trial in New York."Mrs. Marcos is being tried in the United States for offenses against the laws of the United States, allegedly committed in the United States," Aquino said in a statement.

"At the proper time, she will be tried in the Philippines for crimes committed in the Philippines, against Philippine laws."
