LIGHT-RAIL PLAN GETS A BOOST

A key House subcommittee has decided to provide $5 million to keep the proposed light-rail transit system in Salt Lake County on track.

Rep. Wayne Owens, D-Utah, said Bill Lehman, D-Fla., chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transporation, told him informally of the decision, although formal action will not come until next week. Owens asked for the funding at a hearing in April.The money will go to the Utah Transit Authority to buy rights of way needed for the light-rail system.
