The most complicated part of making "Dick Tracy" was creating the faces of characters like Pruneface, The Brow, Flattop and Little Face, says makeup artist Doug Drexler. "It was a nightmare," he says. "Even the type of food you eat can ruin the pieces we created. . . . We learned that chicken grease is the best remover for foam latex appliances." And when the temperature on the set reached 107 one day last summer, actors' faces began to peel and dissolve like melting candle wax, Drexler reports.
