FOOTBALL NEWS PUBLISHER STANTON DIES

Roger Stanton, publisher of Football News and Basketball Weekly, died Saturday of complications from cancer. He was 61.

The Minneapolis native, who lived for the past 30 years in Detroit, died at St. John's Hospital.He founded Football News in 1939, becoming editor and publisher in 1962. He started Basketball Weekly in 1967, and the pair grew to boast a combined circulation of 190,000.

The publications will continue during their respective seasons under the direction of Stanton's widow, Jan, and his nephew, Matt Kornmeier.

Services were scheduled for Monday in Grosse Pointe Farms.
