Businesses within three miles of a freeway interchange and offering services to motorists can have their logo placed on new freeway signs to be posted along Utah's 570 miles of interstate.

The Utah Department of Transportation, following a program in many other states, will provide motorists with an information sign system. The signs will be similar to mileage, exit and landmark signs, except they will advertise food, lodging and other services.Utah Logos Inc. in Murray won the contract to run the program, UDOT said. Businesses can purchase space for their logo at $90 per direction per month. For example, logos on both northbound and southbound exit signs would cost $180 a month.

The signs will have a blue background and will accommodate up to six logos. A spokesman for Utah Logo said interstates passing through the Salt Lake metropolitan area are not participating in the program.
