ARTS AND SCIENCE PROGRAM AT USU COMMENDED BY NATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS

Utah State University's Liberal Arts & Science Program (LASP) has recently received commendations from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and from the National Endowment for the Humanities, according to Ann Leffler, who directs the LASP program.

Leffler said the AAAS cited the USU program in "The Liberal Art of Science: Agenda for Action," a recently published set of recommendations by national study groups that general education requirements be replaced with a liberal arts and sciences curriculum to prepare students for life in the 21st century. And on the basis of the LASP program, the NEH has selected USU as one of 27 universities nationwide that will confer to design liberal arts courses on the theme "legacies."
