The Utah Bankers Association Wednesday elected Harris H. Simmons as its chairman for the 1990-91 year as the UBA's 82nd annual convention closed and members headed back to Utah.

Simmons, president and chief operating officer of Zions Bancorp., replaces Robert B. White Jr., chairman of Community First Bank, Clearfield, who completed his term as head of the association, which represents Utah's 39 commercial banks.James R. Fraser, president, chairman and chief executive officer of Brighton Bank, Salt Lake City, was elected vice chairman of the UBA. Five other bankers were also named to serve two-year terms on the association's 14-member board of directors.

Simmons graduated from the University of Utah and received an MBA from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He has been associated with Zions First National Bank since 1970 and was named president of the bank holding company in 1986.

Simmons has served as a director of the Utah Symphony, United Way of Salt Lake City and LDS Hospital. He has also been a member of the National Advisory Council for the BYU School of Management. He organized Brighton Bank in 1977 and has served as president and chief executive officer since that time. Last year he was also appointed chairman. Prior to 1977, Fraser worked for Walker Bank & Trust Co.

Fraser is a member of the board of governors of the Salt Lake Chapter of the American Institute of Banking and served as president in 1975. He is a member of the Founders Group of Entrepreneurship at the Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University.

The five bankers elected to the UBA board are Ronald W. Heaton, executive vice president, State Bank of Southern Utah, Cedar City; J. Gregg Miller, executive vice president, WestOne Bank; Ronald F. Nielson, senior vice president and chief credit officer, First Interstate Bank of Utah; Norton Parker, president and chief executive officer, Capital City Bank; all Salt Lake City; and Ken A. Webb, president and chief executive officer, Cache Valley Bank, Logan.

Other UBA board members continuing to serve this year are David E. Bronson, executive vice president, Key Bank of Utah; Michael Danielson, president and chief executive officer, Valley Bank & Trust Co.; Dale O. Gunther, president and chief executive officer, Bank of American Fork;

Scott Nelson, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Fist Security Bank of Utah, N.A.; H. Don Norton, president and chief executive officer, Far West Bank; and Lawrence W. Alder, president of the Utah Bankers Association.
