Six Southern Utah State College faculty and staff members have received awards.
W. David Lee, professor of English and head of the language and literature department, was honored as the Outstanding Educator for 1989-90.Stephen R. Adams, Richard R. Kennedy and E. Lyman Munford were each recognized as Distinguished Educators for 1989-90.
Adams is an associate professor of industrial education and head of the industrial education department. Kennedy is an associate professor of geology and head of the physical science and engineering department, and Munford is an associate professor of industrial education.
Outstanding staff members awards for 1989-90 were presented to Sheila Johnson, office manager and graduation officer in the registrar's office, and R. Scott Phillips, marketing director for the Utah Shakespearean Festival.
A $500 cash award goes with Lee's Outstanding Educator Award.
Honored staff members each receive $300, and $250 awards go to each of the distinguished educators. The awards are designated the Rulon A. Jones Distinguished Educator Awards in behalf of the benefactor and his family who provided funds for the cash presentations.
The outstanding male and female staff members are chosen by staff members under the direction of a selection committee named by the SUSC Staff Association.
A distinguished educator's committee reviews nominations for the teaching awards, which are made on the basis of teaching ability and contributions to the college and to the teaching profession.
