NCAA PRESIDENTS WANT TO CUT TIME, COSTS

College athletes will have to spend no more than 20 hours a week on sports, an average reduction of about one-third, under legislation the NCAA Presidents Commission will sponsor at its 1991 convention.

The presidents also agreed to sponsor scholarship cuts in a move to reduce costs. In addition, the commission will sponsor a measure to increase the number of games in a basketball season from 25 to 27 and specify that athletes during their season must get at least one day a week off.
