Disabled people who use the special FlexTrans buses and miss their rides more than twice face ineligibility for the service for a month, the Utah Transit Authority said.
The UTA board approved the sanction to quell a problem of riders scheduling a pickup and then not being there when the bus arrives. He said the no-shows create a problem of wasted space on the well-used FlexTrans buses. UTA has 15 of the special buses designed to transport disabled people in Salt Lake County. Riders, wherever they are in the county, can call UTA to arrange pickups and dropoffs.
Under the new guidelines passed by the UTA board this week, if a rider misses a pickup twice, he will be issued a warning, and the next miss will mean no service for a month.
