NURSING INFORMATICS PROGRAM OFFERED AT U. THIS FALL

A pilot program in nursing informatics, the only program of its kind in the United States, will be offered by the University of Utah College of Nursing this fall.

Judith R. Graves, associated professor at the nursing college and director of the Office of Nursing Informatics, is the principal investigator on a $523,615 federal grant from the U.S. Public Health Service Division of Nursing.According to Graves, the program will focus on clinical nursing information design, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation.

"Graduates of the course will be the first to be formally trained to take hospital positions previously help by employees who just sort of grew into the work," she said. Information systems will record patient data bases and nursing care and provide clinical guidance and feedback to nurses.
