Contra rebels being disarmed in Nicaragua say they're putting their foot down over one request they don't want to trade in their soldiers' boots for rubber ones.
"Our fight for democracy has been very dignified and this makes us reject this type of boots they are giving us when we turn in our rifles," said Carmelo Cuadra, a disarmed rebel in this guerrilla base of 150 miles north of Managua. Each Contra is being supplied with a pair of blue jueans, checkered shirt and rubber boots. They say the rubber boots are not appropriate for the farm work many will be doing as civilians after a decade of war.
They are also being given food rations, a medical check-up, and safe-conduct pass.
