BLACK LEADER Nelson Mandela, in Botswana on the start of a 45-day foreign tour, warned that lifting sanctions against South Africa now "would be tantamount to stabbing the liberation struggle in the back" . . . THOMAS E. BROWN, a child actor who went on to appear in more than 140 films and television programs during a seven-decade career, died Sunday of lung cancer in Los Angeles at age 73.
