Baltimore Manager Frank Robinson found out that practice makes perfect.
Robinson, who was suspended for three games following a run-in with an umpire, used his free time to figure out how to get the most out of his bullpen.Upon his return Monday night, Robinson benefited from 4 2-3 innings of scoreless relief from the Baltimore bullpen to hold on to a 6-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
With the win, Baltimore improved to 7-3 on its current 13-game road trip.
"I had a lot of practice over the last three days, sitting there second guessing the manager, figuring out what I would have done after the fact," said Robinson. "I came out and tried it today and it worked."
Joe Price, 1-2, hurled 2 2-3 innings of one-hit relief for his first victory since Aug. 27 when he was with Boston.
Price has allowed just two earned runs in his last 21 2-3 innings.
"We certainly look for Joe (Price) to give us some innings and get some left-handers out, and some right-handers," said Robinson.
"He's started to do that. It certainly makes the bullpen better. Now you don't have to rely on some of the other guys for those added innings," said Robinson.
Mark Williamson pitched the eighth and Gregg Olson worked the ninth for his 12th save in as many opportunities.
Olson has allowed just one earned run in his last 58 2-3 innings in 40 appearances dating back to July 31.
Milwaukee reliever Bill Krueger, 2-2, absorbed the loss, allowing an unearned run and two hits over 4 2-3 innings.
Cal Ripkin's sacrifice fly in the sixth inning snapped a 4-4 tie and the Orioles tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on Phil Bradley's RBI-single.
Milwaukee threatened in the eighth when they had runners on first and second with two out but failed to score when Dave Parker was thrown out stealing to end the inning.
