Utah State Science Fair winners brought back nine grand-prize awards from the International Science and Engineering Fair competition held May 6-12 in Tulsa, Okla.

The competition comprised 741 competitors from 47 states and nine foreign countries.Receiving the high awards were: Paige Batty, Park City High School, Park City, third-place grand award in behavioral and social sciences; Nancy Chang, Clearfield High School, fourth-place grand award in medicine and health; Mark Slabaugh, Ogden High School, fourth-place grand award in environmental science; Maren Slabaugh, Ogden High School, third-place grand award in botany; Trevor Lewis, Roy High School, fourth-place grand award in engineering; Syndi Lynne Nettles, Roy High School, third-place grand award in engineering; Brad Matthews, Viewmont High School in Bountiful, second-place grand award in behavioral and social sciences; Megan Meservy, Bountiful High School, fourth-place grand award in botany; and David Staheli, Carbon High School in Price, second-place grand award in computer science.
