Mervin Peter Rasmussen, age 82, died June 3, 1990 in Salt Lake City of cancer. He was one of the few to master esophageal speech after cancer of the larynx robbed him of his voice box in 1952.
Born June 26, 1907 in Salt Lake City to Peter and Mary Elizabeth Hall Rasmussen. Married Lorraine Greene, May 19, 1927; later divorced. Married Aldis Laura Weaver, April 6, 1940 and solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on July 18, 1955. She preceded him in death May 28, 1989. Merv and Aldis were well-known for love of dancing. Received award from the Cub Scouts in his area for collecting and donating over $500 in aluminum cans for their pack. Active as a High Priest in the LDS Church and a dedicated home teacher.
He is survived by three daughters and a son, Joyce Hayes and husband Jerry; Sherron Burgess and husband Jack; Merlynn Odermatt and husband Alvin; Larry Rasmussen and wife Sharon; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services on Thursday, June 7th, 12 Noon, Grant 8th Ward, 3400 South 1100 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Wednesday evening 7-9 pm and at the Ward on Thursday, the hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
