TUBERCULOSIS STRIKES 27 IN MISSOURI SCHOOL

Tuberculosis has stricken 27 children from the same elementary school in one of the worst outbreaks of the respiratory disease in Missouri in 20 years, health officials said Tuesday.

The infected children, all from Robinwood Elementary School in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant, caught the contagious disease from an unidentified school staff member, said Dr. Linda Fisher, chief medical officer for St. Louis County. The 27 confirmed cases are the most in the state that Dr. Denny Donnell, state epidemiologist for the Missouri Department of Health, can remember in his 20 years in that post, Fisher said.
