Three people who were involved in the telemedicine spacebridge with the Soviet Union a year ago recently traveled to Moscow to make presentations to the International Disaster Conference.
Dr. Terry P. Clemmer, director of critical-care medicine at LDS Hospital; Tony Ausseresses, media specialist; and Pat Petersen, hospital research coordinator, made separate presentations to the conference. The conference focused on international response efforts to major disasters such as the Armenian earthquake and a train wreck in another region of the USSR. LDS Hospital specialists were involved in mounting a response to both of these disasters - the telemedicine spacebridge, which linked medical specialists in the United States by satellite with physicians in the Soviet Union who were providing care for the victims.
