SLAIN PHILIPPINE REBEL LINKED TO KILLING OF 2 U.S. AIRMEN

An investigation is under way to determine if a top communist guerrilla leader shot by soldiers was involved in the killing of two U.S. servicemen last month, police said.

Police Col. Julius Yarcia identified the guerrilla killed in the encounter Wednesday in nearby Porac town as Ramon Punzalan, provincial secretary of the outlawed Communist Party.Another suspected rebel, Alfredo Duvivar, was captured.

Yarcia said police were trying to determine if Punzalan was part of a communist hit team that killed Airmen John H. Raven, 19, of Delta Junction, Alaska, and James C. Green, 20, of Craig, Colo., on May 13.
