A Salt Lake man was shot in the ear during a dispute Tuesday, police said.

Hernando Torres, 28, apparently intervened in an argument between a man and woman at 720 W. Jackson Ave. (160 North), said Salt Lake Police Lt. Ken Thirsk. Words were exchanged, and then Torres was struck once in the ear by a bullet fired from a semiautomatic pistol.Torres was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was treated and later released, a spokeswoman said. A 24-year-old Salt Lake man was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted homicide in connection with the shooting.
