Parkside Elementary School students in Murray are pretty good at predicting what paintings will sell for.

The students had been learning about painter Vincent van Gogh in their school media center. When his painting of "Portrait of Dr. Gachet," was put up for auction in New York recently, media aide Laura Potter held a contest to see who could come closest to the actual price that would be paid for the painting.Even though expert predictions were for a price between $40 million and $50 million, fifth-grader Chelsey Deppe obviously knew better when she guessed $80.9 million. The actual price was $82.5 million. Chelsey won a book about van Gogh.
