The parents of a kidnapped Peoria man received photos Friday of their son held at gunpoint, shortly after they wired a $60,000 ransom for his captors in Ecuador.
Roy and Marge Heimdal said they were able to meet a deadline for raising the money to free their son Scott Heimdal, 27, who was abducted April 28 by members of the EPL - the People's Liberation Army. The kidnappers had threatened to kill Heimdal unless they had the cash in hand by Monday. Bank officials late Friday confirmed the money had arrived in Quito, Ecuador.
The EPL had asked for $1.2 million but dropped the demand to $60,000 several days ago. The Heimdals said one of the reasons for keeping secret the amount of money raised was to prevent the kidnappers from escalating their ransom demand.
