A new champion will be crowned at the annual 36-hole Bonneville Bank-Provo Open when Utah's top pros tee off today and Sunday at East Bay Golf Course.
Two-time defending champion Jeff Thomsen will not be playing this weekend since he now plays regularly on the new Ben Hogan Tour. That leaves the tourney wide-open for Utah's top professionals to claim the $1,200 first prize.Among the pros to watch are Henry White, Milan Swilor, Tom Costello, Mike Malaska, Roy Christensen, Kim Thompson, Bruce Summerhays, Bruce Brockbank, Steve Schneiter and Wayne Fisher, who lost in a sudden-death playoff to Thomsen last year.
The pros will tee off at 2 p.m. both days in a shotgun start. Amateur play will be at 8 a.m. with some of the top championship flight players joining the pros at 2 p.m.
