DEATH: MARY SCHETTLER HOWELL

Mary Theresa Schettler Howell died peacefully on June 8, 1990.

A daughter of Ernest Frederick Schettler and Emily Davis Schettler, Mary was born December 19, 1905. She attended Salt Lake City schools, graduating from East High School. She attended the U of U and was an active member of Chi Omega sorority and the Trotters Club. She graduated form the U in 1927, and began a teaching career at Hawthorne Elementary and then South (Lincoln) Jr. High School. She married Wesley G. Howell in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 29, 1936. Wes established a law practice while Mary devoted herself to their four children. Wes died in 1963.Mary was widely known for her expertise in candy-making. Her hand-dipped chocolates and pecan rolls where the best! Mary also distinguished herself with her bridge playing. She played cards regularly throughout her life with her many friends, and she was always delighted to win. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Secretary in the YWMIA, President of Beta Mothers' Club, a member of Delta Delta Delta Mothers; Club, and a member of the Classics Club.

Her children are: Wesley and Sunny Howell, Reese and Geri Howell, Mary and Stephen Moss, Robert and Margeo Howell. She also has 14 grandchildren; Elizabeth Howell, Stephanie Howell, Kristina Howell, Mary theresa Howell, Reese Howell, Jr., Anne Howell, Matthew Howell, Richard Howell, Stephen Howell, Meredith Moss, Emily Moss, Stephanie Moss, Angela Howell, Andrew Howell. Her sister, Emily Kilpatrick, and her brother, Paul Schettler, both live in Salt Lake City. Her sister, Mirium Jean, and brother, Ernest D., preceded her in death.

Her family and friends will gather at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Monday, June 11, 1990, 12 noon, and then proceed to the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Drive for a graveside service at 1 p.m.
