A registered nurse has had her license placed on two years probation for performing a surgical procedure and administering drugs without authorization from a physician.

Sheila W. Hansen was a nurse at the Manor Nursing Care Center in South Ogden when she drained a cyst on a patient without a physician's approval, according to the order issued by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.Hansen had tried to get physician care for the patient, but was unsuccessful, the order said. She drained the cyst to relieve the patient.

In another instance she gave an unauthorized dose of Halcion to calm a patient, the order said.

State law prohibits nurses from treating conditions they are not licensed to treat, without permission of a licensed physician.

None of the patients was harmed by Hansen's actions, the order said, and her conduct was prompted by compassion for the patients. But, the order said, Hansen was fired from the nursing home because of the unauthorized treatments.
