Approximately 50 Lehi residents appeared at a City Council meeting Tuesday night and demanded an addition to the agenda - Bernt Murphy.
Citizens voiced concerns that Murphy, recently released from the Utah State Hospital where he had been since 1957 after being tried for raping a young girl, is threatening their community and nothing is being done."I am concerned that they will release more violent people and not tell us," said resident Elmer Scott, who lives less than 200 yards from where Murphy is staying.
The council promised citizens another public meeting to discuss possible solutions, said Scott.
Scott said some people are accusing neighborhod residents of being prejudiced. But he said there are other group homes in Lehi that house mentally ill people, where everyone cooperates and there are no problems.
