The Salt Lake Sting play three important games in the next four days, beginning tonight against the Colorado Foxes at Jefferson County Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
In the Foxes, the Sting will be facing the second place team in the WSL North Division and the best defensive team in the league by far.The Colorado defense, led by goalkeeper Mark Dodd, has given up just seven goals all season and has produced 10 shutouts. The Foxes are 10-4 on the year with 73 points, compared to Salt Lake's 7-6 mark with 60 points.
The Sting are trying to move up from fourth to third in the standings so they can gain a berth in the postseason playoffs next month. They trail San Francisco by 11 points, so the next three games are crucial.
When the Sting met Colorado earlier in Salt Lake, the Foxes came away with a 2-0 victory thanks to two second half goals.
The Sting have been a good road team all season and are coming off a 2-1 win over Portland last week. In that game, newcomer Shane Jones, a recent Alta High grduate, scored the winning goal.
After Wednesday's game, the Sting head down to the West Coast for games against Los Angeles Friday and Santa Barbara Saturday.
