The Lockheed Corp. delivers its last of 59 F-117A Stealth fighters to the Air Force at a ceremony and a flyby at the Lockheed's Palmdale, Calif., plant. The well-publicized ceremony was a sharp contrast with the secrecy that veiled the jet for a decade. Delivery comes as the defense firm girds for competition with Northrop Corp. to build the Advanced Tactical Fighter for the Air Force of the next century. At $42.6 million a plane, the F-117A remains one of the most expensive fighter aircraft ever built.
