Arta Priscilla Matthews Hale, former first counselor in the Primary general presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, died Wednesday, July 11, 1990, in Salt Lake City. She was 91.

Mrs. Hale devoted most of her life to the LDS Church. She served on the Primary board for several years and was the first counselor to Primary General President LaVern W. Parmley. She was also active in leadership in LDS seminary and the Young Women's Mutual Improvement Association. She served on Church Correlation and was Family Home Evening Writing Committee chairwoman. She was instrumental in the writing of each edition of the family home evening manual.She attended the Brigham Young College in Logan and graduated from the University of Utah. She served an LDS mission to the Eastern States and also taught school for several years.

The funeral will be Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m. in Yale Ward, 1431 Gilmer Drive. Friends may call before the service. Burial will be in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
