A Logan, Utah, man was killed Wednesday night when the small plane he was flying crashed near the city's new airport, Boulder City po-lice said.
Police identified the victim as:Tim Himmilrick, 39.
Himmilrick was flying what appeared to be a small experimental aircraft that crashed into the desert west of the airport about 8 p.m.
Eyewitnesses told police they saw the aircraft make a steep banking maneuver when it suddenly stalled and spun into the ground. Himmilrick was alone in the craft at the time of the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been called in to investigate the cause of the crash.
This is the first crash at the new $3 million Boulder City airport since it opened July 1.
