Eastern Airlines and Northwest Airlines have been holding talks regarding a possible acquisition of the financially embattled Eastern by Northwest, Eastern's court-appointed trustee said Friday.
Trustee Martin Shagrue said he hoped Eastern would be acquired as a complete entity, rather than sold off piecemeal."The deal I'm interested in is an entire company deal, including the people who work here," Shagrue said. "I have no intention of cutting up Eastern Airlines. To sell this enterprise off piecemeal does no one any good."
The trustee said that he has met with Northwest Chairman Alfred Checchi and that further meetings are planned "to see if there's an opportunity for Northwest and Eastern to do something together."
