Public hearings on proposed changes in Utah's public school finance formulas will be held in four locations over the next few weeks.
The schedule includes:
-Provo School District board room, Friday, July 20, 10 a.m.
-State Office of Education board room, 250 E. 500 South, Wednesday, Aug. 8, 10 a.m.-Iron School District board room, Cedar City, Thursday, Aug. 23, 6 p.m.
-Carbon School District board room, Price, Wednesday, Aug. 29, 6 p.m.
The Salt Lake City hearing will be broadcast over the EdNet system.
Draft copies of the study are available at the State Office building after Monday, July 16, as well as at the public hearing sites. Those unable to attend meetings may submit comments to the Utah School Finance Task Force, Utah State Office of Education, 250 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111, telephone 538-7662.
Among proposals for changing finance formulas is one that would equalize money raised by school districts through local property taxation. The proposal would shift money from some districts that have the ability to raise considerable sums from property taxes to poorer districts.
