A 46-year-old man who reportedly dared a gunman to shoot was in fair condition Monday at LDS Hospital with a gunshot wound in the chest.
The victim, Bob Bishop, and another man had been in a "heated dispute over an undetermined issue" late Saturday night, said Lt. Kenneth Thirsk.Witnesses said Bishop had threatened a 31-year-old man with a knife, said Lt. Judy Denker.
When the other man pulled a gun, witnesses said Bishop yelled "go ahead and shoot" and the suspect did.
Witnesses said the suspect had yelled for help as he was being chased and waited for the police after the shooting, which occurred between apartment buildings in Salt Lake City's Avenues district.
The gunman has been apprehended and is in Salt Lake County Jail.
