SHARE FIRE CHARS BLUFFDALE RANGE

A range fire burned about 120 acres of sagebrush, oak brush and June grass early Tuesday above the Jordan Valley Water Treatment Plant.

Assistant Chief Steve Wanless of the Bluffdale Fire Department said the cause of the blaze, which broke out about 1 a.m. at approximately 15400 S. 3200 West, is unknown. But he said a Salt Lake County deputy sheriff saw a pickup truck leaving the hillside area about the time the fire broke out.No structures were burned by the fire, which was kept away from wheat fields and was contained by about 4 a.m. with assistance from the Salt Lake County Fire Department and volunteer fire departments from Riverton, Draper and South Jordan. Wanless said about 50 to 60 people fought the blaze.

"Swirling winds atop the hillside kept firemen moving trying to contain the blaze. We really appreciate the cooperative help from the other departments," Wanless said.
