Indians piled dirt Tuesday behind a barricade on a road in Chateauguay, Quebec, as a week-old standoff with police continued. The Mohawks are fighting the expansion of a golf course on land they say is theirs. Talks to end the protest broke down Tuesday when police barred U.S. civil rights lawyer William Kunstler from entering the besieged Indian encampment. About 1,000 police have laid siege to the encampment of about 2,000 Indians since July 11.
