Max L. Smith, 59, died July 16, 1990, Salt Lake City after a short battle with a rare cancer.

Born, September 17, 1930, Salt Lake City, Utah to Charles Coulson Smith and Manon Lyman Smith. He married Georgina M. Sutorius, March 3, 1952. Max was a retired Army Officer, traveled extensively all over the world; his military decorations include the following: Bronze Star Medal (two Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster) Vietnam Campaign Medal with V device, Vietnam Service Medal (three Campaigns), Meritorious Unit Citation and Medal for Humane Action (Berlin Device). An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Monument Park Stake.Survivors: wife, three sisters; Rhoda Andersen; Mrs. Wes (Betty) McDonald, and Mrs. Max (Ruth) Thompson, all of Salt Lake. One brother, Charles C. Smith, Jr., New Jersey.

Funeral Services will be held, Friday, July 20, 1990, 12:00 noon, Monument Park 12th Ward, 2795 Crestview Drive where friends may call the hour prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake Mausoleum.
